The Disappearance: The young girl went missing on Saturday afternoon after leaving her home to buy food/a gift. Following an overnight search by her family, her body was discovered packed inside a sack in a local village pond on Sunday morning (July 5).
Autopsy Results: Preliminary post-mortem findings released by the police have confirmed severe trauma and sexual assault. The report indicated significant injuries to her private parts, bite and scratch marks across her body, and a severe head injury. Crucially, the presence of water in her lungs and stomach indicates that she was still alive when she was thrown into the pond, making drowning and excessive bleeding the official causes of death.
2. Mob Violence and Vigilantism
The Lynching: Immediately following the discovery of the body, local fury boiled over. An angry mob apprehended a local youth—identified as 26-year-old Indrajit Mondol—suspecting his involvement or association with the perpetrators. He was brutally beaten to death by the crowd before police could intervene.
Clashes with Law Enforcement: Public outrage quickly turned into widespread riots. Protesters blocked road traffic for over five hours, disrupted the Sealdah-Namkhana railway line, torched tires, and vandalized several police vehicles. Multiple security personnel, including central force jawans, were injured in the ensuing clashes.
